On the anniversary of Turkey’s earthquakes: Armed attack against Istanbul courthouse

On 6 February at around 11:46 local time, two Revolutionary People’s Liberation Front (Revolutionary People’s Front – Devrimci Halk Kurtuluş Cephesi – DHKC) fighters opened fire on a police checkpoint located at the entrance of the courthouse located in Istanbul’s Chaalayan district / in the European part of the city /. During the gunfight that broke out between the militants and the police, 3 policemen were wounded and the two militants died at the scene of the armed action. According to the information known at the moment, the three policemen wounded in the shootout remain for treatment in one of the hospitals in the Turkish metropolis.

Today at 4:17 am, the town of Pazarcık, Kahramanmaraş province was struck by an earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale. Though AFAD – the State Agency for Disaster and Crisis Management, reported that the earthquake was 7.4 on the Richter scale, according to information released by the United States Geological Survey, the magnitude of the earthquake was 7.8 on the Richter scale. With every passing moment, the number of deaths and the injured people grows.
